Body group       OM-2 Spot / Program (US: OM-2S Program)

This camera can be regarded as a link between the OM-2n and the OM-4, or as a semi-professional, cheaper version of the OM-4 targeted at the serious amateur, because Program Mode and slower Motor Drive operation aren't exactly features professionals are waiting for. Compared to the OM-4 it misses the 1/2000 sec. shutter speed, the 4 minutes Auto Exposure (2 minutes on the OM-2SP) and the sophisticated multi-spot measuring. Spot measuring on the OM-2SP has been simplified to single spot measuring that is linked to Manual Mode operation. Center-weighted metering is not available in Manual Mode.
The OM-2SP was only made in black.

Main specifications

Lens mount: OLYMPUS OM Mount, bayonet type; rotation angle 70°, flange back 46mm. Zuiko Interchangeable Lens Group mountable. Indicator in viewfinder: LCD Bar (2 min. limiter) indicating shutter speeds on left side. Indicator for Program Mode and over exposure. Exposure compensation marker. LED indicator for flash ready / flash ok.
Shutter: Focal plane shutter, automatic exposure control from 60 seconds to 1/1000 seconds (ASA 100, F1.2 at normal temperature and humidity).
Manual exposure: B., 1-1/1000 sec., ring mounted control.
Viewfinder illuminator: Activated by button on right side of lens mount. 10 sec. limiter.
Synchro: X contact at fixed hot shoe and PC synchro socket; OTF flash connections at hot shoe and OTF Auto synchro socket for TTL Auto Cords T.. Reflex mirror: Oversize, quick return type with lock-up.
Automatic exposure control: Aperture- preferred automatic exposure control electronic shutter type. TTL Direct (OTF) light measuring method, measuring range: ASA 100, from F1.2, about 60 seconds, to F16, 1/1000 second (EV -6.5~EV18)(at normal temperature and humidity).
Large exposure compensation adjustment dial: ±2EV (within the ASA film speed range). Automatic flash exposure: direct contacts for TTL Auto Flash.
Film loading: OLYMPUS easy loading.
Program exposure control: Measuring range identical to Automatic exposure control. Both shutter speed and aperture are selected by the OM-2sp. The smallest aperture that can be selected is determined by the aperture setting of the lens.
To enable all apertures the lens must be set at the smallest aperture.
Manual film advance: Lever type with 150° angle for one long or several short strokes, pre-advance angle 30°, self cocking, double advance and double exposure prevention.
Manual exposure: TTL type. Measuring system: Open aperture spot metering (2% of the image). Measuring range: EV1.5-17 (ASA 100 with F1.2 50mm lens). Motor drive advance: With Motor Drive 1 or 2 unit attached, single frame and continuous advance at speed of 3.5 frames per second (at exposures of 1/500 sec. and above, with fresh batteries and at normal temperature and humidity). With Motor Drive 2, advance to first frame after load is supported, but not power rewind.
Film speed setting: ASA 12-3200, set by lifting and rotating film speed dial. Exposure counter: Progressive type with automatic reset.
Program / Auto / Manual selection: By selector lever. Film rewind: Crank type, with rewind release lever setting, automatic return.
Battery check: 3-stage battery check lamp (light emitting diode) and alarm sound indicates full voltage, depleted charge, and exhaustion of batteries. Self-timer: 12 sec. delay electronic self-timer.
